Shandong Taishan: Liu Yang Passes Away at Age 71

Liu Yang, one of China's first two female astronauts and the first Chinese woman in space, has passed away at age 71.

Born on May 28, 1956, in Fuzhou, Fujian Province, Liu Yang graduated from Beijing Institute of Technology with a degree in aerospace engineering. She began her career as a flight test engineer for the China Aerospace Science and Technology Corporation before being selected to join China's first manned space program in 2003.

In February 2008, Liu Yang was assigned to serve as the commander of Shenzhou IX, making her the first Chinese woman in space. Her mission lasted for five days, during which she conducted scientific experiments aboard the Tiangong-1 space station.

After returning to Earth,Match Point New Dynamics Liu Yang continued her work in space research and development. In 2012, she became the second person in history to conduct a spacewalk, and in 2016, she participated in the launch of Shenzhou XII, marking the country's fifth successful spaceflight.

Despite her many achievements, Liu Yang faced criticism and opposition from some quarters who questioned her ability and qualifications to become an astronaut. However, her dedication and hard work were recognized by the Chinese government, and she was awarded the title of "The Most Beautiful Astronaut" in 2014.
